Origins of Western Civilization: Minoan Culture
Michal Ann Morrison; midwifed by Sara Jolena Wolcott
We think of Western Civilization as the cradle of democracy, starting in Greece in 800 BCE. But long before that was the peaceful society of the Minoan Civilization.
What if we re-originated the roots of Western Civilization into the Minoan Civilization, a culture that worshiped the Divine Feminine, honored women and men, celebrated sensuality, animals, sea creatures, and had a stunningly beautiful aesthetic, with vast trading routes throughout the Mediterranean world?
Perhaps we are not only dreaming of sustainable society, but ReMembering what once was? If we source our sense of the West from a different root, what becomes possible as we work to enact regenerative societies today?
To help us begin asking these questions, we have the pleasure of hearing from Michal Ann Morrison, who is deeply passionate about the Minoan peoples, having participated in archaeological digs there as an undergraduate student, and continued studying Minoan culture since then. In this video, she talks with Sara Jolena about the culture, showing us some incredible images, and shares some of the impact that reMembering the Minoans has had on her.
We hope this can support a larger conversation about the origin stories we share around our familial and cultural fires.
